With ghastly ghouls and handsome hunters, Netflix’s Lockwood & Co. hit our screens in late January of this year and featured characters with dense and intriguing backstories. Alas, the decision has been made not to renew the show for a second season.
Lockwood & Co. is a supernatural series, based on the novels by Jonathan Stroud. Made under the Complete Fiction production company, best known for their work on films such as Hot Fuzz, it depicts the melancholic life of Lucy Caryle (Ruby Stokes), a teen ghost hunter. Upon fleeing her small hometown for the city streets of London she joins forces with the mysterious Anthony Lockwood (Cameron Chapman) and the enigmatic George Karim (Ali Hadji-Heshmati) to take down and contain only the deadliest of ghosts in this post apocalyptic Britain.
Complete Fiction released a statement to corroborate Netflix decision to ax the show, “Making this show was one of the most rewarding experiences of our careers and we will forever treasure it.” This cancellation comes despite previous conversations of a potential second series being in the works and a positive fan culture surrounding the show in the form of ‘Lock-Nation’. Netflix was very pleased with the quality of the production but it just did not meet the threshold in terms of viewership.
The streaming platform has become infamous for canceling beloved shows after one season and Lockwood & Co. is no different. Fans are outraged that they will not be able to spend more time with the ghost killing trio as evidenced on the popular social media platform, Twitter. Praise for Lockwood & Co. and campaigning attempts have flooded the platform.
Many are eager to see the show return through another streaming service, such as PrimeVideo.
Sadly, at this point in time no one can be sure what the future holds for the Lockwood clan but they certainly left a ghostly imprint on the minds of many.
You can stream season one of Lockwood & Co. on Netflix.
