Title: Killing Bono
Starring: Ben Barnes, Robert Sheehan
Synopsis: Killing Bono, loosely based upon the true story of failed young Irish musicians Neil McCormick and Brother Ivan, is a light hearted comedy and one for music fans, especially the kind who appreciate good 80’s hairstyles. The story follows two brothers, both childhood friends with Paul Hewson who of course later becomes Bono of U2, who are bred from the teen band rivalry of Dublin; the other band posing as opposition being the McCormick brothers. The premature U2 offer Ivan a place in the band to which his older brother rejects on Ivans behalf, without telling Ivan. This guilt Neil feels as U2 rise in fame, provokes him to try and make their band more successful, and they move to London, become friends with their very camp landlord and have 5 minutes of fame. Albeit, the brothers are perpetually in U2’s shadow in a comedic and sometimes heart wrenching way. The outfits are silly and Martin McCann’s depiction of Bono is perhaps very favourable to the real thing, I would recommend watching it.
