John Wick

Starring Keanu Reeves, John Wick is a prevailing independent action movie depicting the ‘comeback’ of a legendary assassin of the same name. After Wick retires from his murderous life, his wife dies of cancer giving him a puppy for company. But when a Russian mobsters’ son ruins his peace and kills his puppy in cold blood. John Wick decides it’s time for redemption.

John Wick is one of the most stylish and solid action movies to be released in recent years. Keanu Reeves elevates the already exceptional direction with a signature stoic character performance. While the dialogue isn’t always as intriguing as it should be, Reeves’ delivery of lines never fails to catch your interest throughout. It’s perfect casting and this performance has been a much needed addition to Reeves’ filmography. The originality of the screenplay isn’t inspired, but the simple yet enthralling direction makes the screenplay feel like pure gold. Beautiful wide shots and engaging uses of colour make the film absorbing, creating a world of it’s own the audience can step into. With a sequel already greenlit, John Wick is very similar Mad Max: Fury Road with an independent film budget, it’s a perfect action flick and you don’t have to ‘turn off your brain’ to watch it.
