Nick Jones and Priyanka Chopra Jonas announced the latest batch of Academy Award nominees, with biopic Mank leading the pack with 11 nominations.
David Fincher’s passion project about screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz is up for numerous Academy Award categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Gary Oldman and Best Supporting Actress for Amanda Seyfried. Other contenders include Chloé Zhao’s awards-favourite Nomadland, which is up for six awards including Best Director alongside Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman. This marks the first time that two women have been nominated for Best Director in the awards’ 93-year history.
Elsewhere it’s been a strong year for British talent, with acting nominations for Daniel Kaluuya, Sacha Baron-Cohen, Olivia Colman and Vanessa Kirby. Carey Mulligan earns a spot on the Best Actress list for her performance in Promising Young Woman after missing out at the BAFTAs nominations last week. Familiar Academy Award names honored with a nomination include Viola Davis, Frances McDormand and Glenn Close. The late Chadwick Boseman is nominated for his posthumous appearance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
