Strictly Come Dancing finalist and popular soap star Maisie Smith will be making her musical theatre debut in the 2022/23 UK tour of Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom The Musical.
The musical is based on the award-winning global film phenomenon of the same name which inspired the hit TV series Strictly Come Dancing. It tells the story of Scott Hastings, a talented, arrogant and rebellious young ballroom dancer. When Scott’s radical dance moves see him fall out of favour with the Australian Federation, he begins dancing with Fran, a beginner. The unlikely pair become inspired by one another to defy both convention, discovering that, to be winners, the steps don’t need to be strictly ballroom.
EastEnders star Maisie Smith will star alongside Strictly Come Dancing’s former professional dancer Kevin Clifton. After stunning audiences with her consistent high scores throughout the competition, she also won the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 Children In Need Special alongside Clifton.
Now the duo is ready to put on their dancing shoes for the upcoming 2022/23 tour which will be directed and co-choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood. In a press release statement, he expresses his excitement for the dancing partnership: “I can’t wait to see them dance together again. Expect some sexy moves, sizzling costumes and a simply sensational evening! I know that they’ll both be FAB-U-LOUS!”
The tour will start on 26 September at the Kings Theatre in Portsmouth, and will visit 37 other venues including Birmingham, London and Newcastle, before finishing at Bristol’s Hippodrome on 15 July.
Tickets for Strictly Ballroom The Musical are available to buy from the show’s website.
