In four weeks’ time, Liverpool Theatre Festival will return for its third consecutive year, taking place outdoors in St Luke’s Bombed Out Church.
This year’s event will feature 14 shows, covering a range of diverse genres including comedy, drama, musicals, drag, family shows, and opera.
The programme showcases both new talent as well as some favourites from last year’s festival. Following successful premieres earlier this year, organisers have invited two popular productions from Little LTF (Liverpool Theatre Festival Of New Works) to be part of the main event. These include Not Drunk But Disorderly, a murder mystery spliced with elements of physical comedy, and 97+ A Drama Based On The 1989 Hillsborough Disaster—a drama which details the traumas of two men who were survivors of the disaster.
The line-up also includes three shows which have received unanimous critical acclaim from Edinburgh Festival Fringe audiences. These productions will come straight from the Scottish capital to make their debut at Liverpool Theatre Festival. It will open with I Wish My Life Were Like A Musical on Wednesday 31 August, while Julie Madly Deeply and Looking For Me Friend – The Music Of Victoria Wood closes this year’s festival on Sunday 11 September.
Other works include Holy Moly Cabaret, The Wind In The Willows, Ma Joyce’s Tales From The Parlour, Opera Beneath the Stars and Venus Rising.
