Bring Me Down // Kanye West (Ft. Brandy)

Oh Kanye West, the most polarising figure in music and modern culture, you truly either love him or hate him. I land firmly in the former category. I am a stout believer in Yeezus, that’s not to say I agree 100% with everything he says, but he has overcome a thousand and one obstacles to get where he is and continues to break down barriers and smash glass ceilings. ‘Bring Me Down’ from Yeezy’s second album Late Registration echoes this sentiment, no matter how many ‘haters’ Kanye attracts his drive to succeed is never killed. In this track Kanye raps about the fact he’s the musical Marmite spitting, “Everybody feel a way about K, but at least y’all feel something.”

I’m not saying he’s “the greatest living rock star on the planet” but he is an incredible entertainer, having been written off as a producer, Kanye proved everyone wrong and became one of the world’s biggest rappers. Not content with that, he has continued to change the game with moves into the auto-tuned magic of 808s & Heartbreak and bringing the industrial rap heard on Yeezus to the masses – and that’s not even mentioning his growing brand in the fashion industry. Whilst many internet warriors petitioned against his Glastonbury performance (despite the fact many didn’t go) Yeezy took no notice and delivered a crowd pleasing greatest hits performance, being at the barrier was a dream come true. Don’t worry Kanye, I still love you.
