Brooklyn Dodgers // I Am The Avalanche

In addition to being a pumped up punk blast, ‘Brooklyn Dodgers’ is a symbolic addition. I Am The Avalanche are probably always in the shadow of The Movielife – frontman Vinnie Caruana’s former punk outfit who are now on the comeback trail. Aggressive and anthemic, ‘Brooklyn Dodgers’ is the pinnacle in an album (‘Avalanche United’ – unifying right?!?!) filled with punk attitude.
What makes this track special is what makes music special to me. A friend introduced me to this track along with a few tracks by Basement, Seahaven, Make Do And Mend, Balance And Composure and few others during a mixtape making session. I then shared I Am The Avalanche with my best friend and then got him supporting Vinnie Caruana during a show in Liverpool in early 2013. Now we are all friends – even toured all together last year. Vinnie even showed us the value of bands like Have Mercy, RX Bandits and Bayside.

That, for me, is the best part of music – the ability to share it with people and make an impact on their lives. The communal effects of music are more powerful than anything. As a result, ‘Brooklyn Dodgers’ is a song about friendship…but actually, it’s not supposed to be.
