Hairspray

A slightly more upbeat film to close my list on, I’ve gone for Hairspray – because I’m not going to lie, I fucking love musical films. Mamma Mia, The Sound of Music and so on – I’ve seen them all, and I’ve probably got the soundtrack in my iTunes library too. There is something so heartening about a good old sing-song – whether it’s on your own, after a glass of wine or two with your family or even in the cinema (if you’re brave). I can’t even sing, but so what? This film has a poignant message about race which seems to resonate still today, with the current political climate in America. Whilst this film’s lyrics are sadly still applicable to many people, it also exists as a beacon of progress – a reminder that the world is getting better. Slowly.
