AMC has released a teaser trailer for season three of Interview With The Vampire, the TV adaptation of Anne Rice’s popular book series, The Vampire Chronicles.
After an emotionally draining second season, the gothic vampire romance looks to be adding some levity, following the vampire Lestat (Sam Reid) as he embarks on his rockstar journey. The third season will adapt the second book in Rice’s series, The Vampire Lestat, and fans were overjoyed by the brief teaser released at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend.
The teaser begins with an off-camera Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) complaining about Lestat’s lateness. The man himself soon appears, decked in an extravagant green snakeskin jacket, and behaving exactly like the Lestat of season one we all love to hate. He complains about an on-the-nose goblet on the table, expresses his distaste for Daniel’s recently published book, Interview With The Vampire, and introduces himself as Justin Bieber.
Lestat’s hatred for Daniel’s book is painfully obvious; as soon as Daniel attempts to ask what he thinks, he conveniently begins to cough uncontrollably. Whilst the crew are distracted, Lestat begins his proper introduction, speaking telepathically as the camera slowly pushes in. (Interestingly, you can hear one of the crew offscreen say “I’m not doing it. It’s him”, foreshadowing Lestat’s likely difficult behaviour during the filming of the documentary).
Lestat’s telepathic voiceover introduction is lifted directly from The Vampire Lestat’s opening page, as the vampire dramatically tells us: “The light of the sun, the sustained heat of an intense fire — these things might destroy me. But then again, they might not.” One of the most-loved aspects of Rice’s novels is her beautiful prose, and Rolin Jones seems to be continuing his efforts to add Rice’s prose into the show as much as possible.
Guitars and drums begin pounding as ‘The Vampire Lestat Returns’ slowly appears on a black screen, and we are treated to a snippet of one of Lestat’s songs from the upcoming season, ‘Long Face’. Lyrics flash up on the screen as the song plays, and montages of Lestat at various points of the interview, in many dazzling glam-rock outfits (often covered in blood) are interspersed in time with the song’s beat.
The official AMC+ account also released a three-minute lyric video of the song, demonstrating their commitment to delivering a book-faithful adaptation. The video can be found below.
There is currently no release date set for the third season, but be sure to stay tuned for updates.
