After an almost decade-long absence, the iconic show Kitchen Nightmares is making a comeback with a fresh series.
On Monday, Fox confirmed that the show would be returning as part of its 2023-24 programming slate. The series will join shows on the network such as Next Level Chef (recently renewed for seasons three and four) Hell’s Kitchen, MasterChef, and MasterChef Jr.
Kitchen Nightmares was launched in the US in 2007 as an adaptation of the similarly titled UK series, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, which began airing three years prior.
In the US version, the chef would travel far and wide to rescue failing restaurants, spending time sampling their menus and analysing the functionality of the businesses. Later, he would offer candid guidance for their service, menus and food. For many of the featured establishments, the show was viewed as their last hope of avoiding closure. Ramsay, complete with a surplus of harsh criticism and no-nonsense advice, would work with the restaurant for a week in an attempt to get them back on their feet.
Kitchen Nightmares ran in the UK for five seasons before closing in 2007. The US adaptation was on air from 2007 to 2014. Producing 92 episodes over the span of seven years, the show was eventually cancelled by Ramsay himself. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2018, he explained:
“I cancelled my own show on Fox, Kitchen Nightmares. I woke up in the middle of the south of France after filming a week with a British guy I wouldn’t trust to run my bath, let alone my restaurant. Because he was running a ski resort, he felt like he could take advantage of all those customers because there was nowhere else to eat. He was giving me shit for telling him the truth and I thought, ‘I’m done.’”
Kitchen Nightmares is being produced by Ramsay Studios and no premiere date yet been given for the show.
All other series and episodes of the show are available to stream on All 4 in the UK.
