Kaley Cuoco will star in a forthcoming dark comedic thriller, Based on a True Story, from Emmy-nominated writer and executive producer Craig Rosenberg.
The Peacock network has announced that two-time Emmy nominee, Kaley Cuoco, is set to lead the cast of its upcoming dark comedic thriller, Based on a True Story. Cuoco gained notoriety for her outstanding performance as rebellious Cassie Bowden in HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant, which earned her second consecutive Emmy nomination in the category of ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.’ With her new projects, she is shattering the stereotype of soft-hearted, funny, and easy-going Penny from the critically acclaimed The Big Bang Theory, which propelled the actress to prominence.
Kaley Cuoco will portray a married woman called Ava Bartlett, who, according to Deadline, will appear in two seasons of the Peacock series. The series finds inspiration from a bizarre true event involving “a realtor, a plumber, and a former tennis star whose lives unexpectedly collide, exposing America’s obsession with true crime, murder, and the slow close toilet seat,” as illustrated in the synopsis. Further specifications about the plot, production, and cast are being kept under wraps.
Craig Rosenberg will serve as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer alongside Ozark-famed Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films. Roxie Rodriguez serves as co-executive producer for Aggregate Films. The series will be produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.
But what does this mean for the Season 3 of The Flight Attendant? As reported by Deadline, there has been no season three pickup for The Flight Attendant yet as creator Steve Yockey is bouncing around potential ideas and scripts. As he spoke to TV Insider after the season two finale, he shared his thoughts, “We really don’t know what a third season would look like. Our plan was always that with each additional season, we would do a new standalone case that would have a beginning, middle, and ending that would bring our characters back in some unexpected way, trapped in a new sort of weird international mystery. It worked for season two […] I think it would work with season three. The big question is always, what’s Cassie’s emotional story? If we can figure out what that is, then we’d be happy to do a season three. ”
Cuoco also spoke to People about the possibility of season three. “We did two—we should probably be done. I think I’ve been outnumbered with that thought; there’s definitely interest in doing a third season. I think for me, at this moment, the plane has landed,” she said.
However, fans of Cassie Bowden need not fret, as the upcoming series does not completely rule out season three of The Flight Attendant. She has an overall deal with Warner Bros. TV, which is exclusive for producing and non-exclusive for acting. In the time being, maybe they come up with an idea to excite her about playing Cassie again. However, it is unlikely that we would see one soon.
Cuoco is currently shooting an action-thriller feature called Role Play and will next appear in the romantic comedy film Meet Cute.
