The 2024 Streamer Awards, hosted at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on February 17th, gathered top-tier streamers, content creators and their devoted fans worldwide to honour the pioneers of live streaming. Established in 2022 by Twitch luminary QTCinderella, these awards have grown into a prestigious annual event, celebrating the accomplishments of individual streamers and the vibrant communities that thrive within them.
Dubbed as being “Run by streamers, made for streamers, and powered by the fans”, this year’s ceremony recognized winners in 28 categories, chosen by fans, with a pulse on evolving tastes and trends. Alongside celebrating individual streamers, the 2024 Streamer Awards underwent category updates, signalling a shift in content preferences among audiences.
American online streamer and YouTuber, Kai Cenat, dominated the 2024 Streamer Awards, clinching both the prestigious Streamer of the Year title for the second consecutive year, and the Best Just Chatting Streamer Award. Cenat is best known for his live streams and comedy-based content he uploads on YouTube. At present, he ranks as the second most-subscribed and the 13th most-followed Twitch streamer, boasting approximately nine million followers.
Joining Cenat in the limelight was US-born streamer Jynxzi, who secured the coveted Gamer of the Year title and Best Breakthrough Streamer Award, captivating audiences with his exceptionally intense gameplay and nail-biting action live streams.
Maximilian Miles Christensen, known by the alias Maximilian Dood, received the Legacy Award for his outstanding contributions to the fighting game community. Specializing in content centred around titles like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Killer Instinct, his influence extends beyond gameplay to grassroots tournament organization and advocacy for the revival of classic fighting game series.
Additionally, CaseOh was recognized as the Best Variety Streamer for his engaging content spanning reactions, banter, and gaming. Meanwhile, Lethal Company’s Stream Game of the Year win highlighted its widespread appeal, accumulating over 20.3 million hours of playtime in the year.
One poignant moment of the evening unfolded during the acceptance speech of Ludwig Ahgren for the Best Streamed Event Award. Ahgren reflected on the challenges of maintaining a relentless streaming lifestyle and hinted at the possibility of retirement. “I hope I am still able to make cool shit. I’m gonna say right now, I got five years left in me maximum… So I hope, in that time, I do some cool shit,” says Ahgren.
