The John Wick prequel series The Continental will make its debut on Peacock streaming service this September.
The release dates were officially announced during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
The series will be split into three parts with the first episode airing on 22 September and the other two instalments streaming on 29 September and 6 October. The Continental will also stream on Prime Video for audiences outside of the US on 22 September.
Set forty years before the events of the John Wick films starring Keanu Reeves, the miniseries will explore the origins of the infamous Continental Hotel—a lavish safe haven for assassins. The story centres around a young Winston Scott, played by Colin Woodell, who must confront demons from his past as he navigates New York’s criminal underworld to seize control of the hotel. The role was originally played by Ian McShane in the film series.
Another familiar face from the franchise will be returning as Ayomide Adegun makes his acting debut as a younger Charon, a role originally portrayed by the late Lance Reddick.
The series also introduces a host of new characters including Mel Gibson as the villainous Cormac, current manager of the New York Continental, Misha Prada as NYPD detective KD and Jeremy Bobb as KD’s superior, Mayhew.
Audiences at the Comic-Con panel were treated to exclusive clips from the upcoming show as well as a behind-the-scenes featurette. While details about the series remain firmly under wraps, director and executive producer Albert Hughes promises an intense, action-packed prequel that matches the eccentric spirit of the original John Wick films.
The Continental is set to be a fan-favourite, as Hughes confirms: “because like the Wick films, it’s a wild, fun ride and it’s unique, it’s colourful, it’s bold, it’s sonic, it has a cast of characters that you’re not going to find in normal movies because of the world that we’re in.”
