Hollywood star and Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain, Nightcrawler, Spider-Man: Far From Home) is set to star in upcoming TV series based on Ian Parker’s 2019 New Yorker article: A Suspense Novelist’s Trail of Deceptions.

The article accuses Dan Mallory, author of suspense novel The Woman in the Window, of fabricating aspects of his life, including suffering from a brain tumour, losing his mother to cancer, and losing his brother to suicide. The A Suspense Novelist’s Trail of Deceptions TV series will centre on an unreliable narrator who nurses brain tumours he does not have and mourns family members who have not passed, preying on people’s sympathy to get away with everything and anything.
The harrowing and dark series will be written and directed by Janicza Bravo, best known for the forthcoming Zola, in collaboration with Brian Savelson. In describing the series, Bravo stated: “what may have started out as my dog ate homework turns into my mother died of cancers, my brother took his life and I have a double doctorate. Our protagonist is white, male and pathological. There is a void in him and he feels it by duping people. He’s a scammer.”
She goes on to describe how the series “examines white identity and how we as an audience participate in making room for this behaviour.” Bravo will executive produce the series alongside Riva Marker for Nine Stories and Annapurna’s Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, Sammy Scher and Susan Goldberg.
Further information regarding casting and production timeline has yet to be released but we can definitely expect something exciting, packed with dark themes of lies, manipulation and betrayal.
