Sadly, the band billed for Bury St Edmunds’ Living Room gig on 7th May were unable to make it. Norwich-based Morganway took the stage in their place. They were by far the most unexpected performers of the night. A four piece, the group met as separate bands broke apart, and take their collective influence from a diverse range of other artists. They describe themselves as having “Fleetwood Mac vocal harmonies” – which comes across – but more powerful is the stunning vocal prowess of singer Yve Mary B. In particular, listeners ought to look out for their opening track of both the album and their set – ‘Hurricane’ – in which the punchy riffs of the Fleetwood Mac comparison are apt, blended with vocals perhaps more reminiscent of Haim.

Another stand-out track, ‘Stand in Your Way’ brings with it a guitar line with a Western twang – not perhaps expected but nonetheless welcome. The band’s original tracks aren’t reflective of their as-yet-unsigned status; they pressed into my hand a self-produced CD of their “unfinished” work as I left, and it’s barely left my CD player since. Brothers Callum and Kieran Morgan, founders of the band, take my praise with sheepish modesty. It is well-deserved.
