Name: Lucie Barât and The Au Revoirs
Hometown: Brighton
Listen to: Fallen, Hey Faust
“It’s becoming our anthem”, says Lucie Barât of debut single ‘Fallen’, “it’s dramatic, personal and highly danceable. I think it announces us perfectly”.
Keen not to let her last name get in the way of carving out her own identity, 2015 has seen Barât move away from the furore around The Libertines, allowing the band to focus on producing a series of honest, heartfelt tracks, backed up with a few small gigs of their own.
Their debut single ‘Fallen’ comes out on November 13th, refinishing a simple punkish double-tap with a clean, folky touch; it’s a refreshing sound, lyrically broad enough to feel familiar, but specific enough not to feel vague or impersonal. The song feels deliberate and poised, asserting itself with a shaky confidence and an obvious comprehension of the genre and its expectations. An enthusiastic four-piece teeming with on-stage charisma to validate their efforts, ‘Fallen’ brings with it the potential for the band to move into a niche of their own as they mark themselves out from their contemporaries.
Their demo ‘Bella’ also currently appears on the band’s SoundCloud page, featuring a collaboration between Lucie and Carl Barât, and is set to be released formally in January 2016. The song was recently chosen by BBC Introducing as their ‘track of the day’.
You can preorder the 7” of ‘Fallen’ here, or find the band on Facebook and Twitter.
