The official trailer for Hulu’s upcoming psychological thriller The Other Black Girl has been released ahead of its premiere next month.
Based on the 2021 bestselling novel of the same name by Zakiya Dalila Harris, The Other Black Girl centres around aspiring book publisher Nella Rogers (played by Sinclair Daniel). Stuck in an editorial assistant role at a shockingly White publishing house in New York City, Nella is sick of the microaggressions that come with being the only Black girl at Wagner Books.
Her life is turned upside down when Hazel-May McCall (Ashleigh Murray)—Wagner’s enigmatic new hire and the titular ‘other Black girl’—joins the team and becomes fast friends with Nella. Shared lunch breaks, comparing natural hair regimens and an introduction to each other’s friends—it’s clear that Nella has found solace in Hazel’s presence in the office. But as Hazel proves more and more popular among the rest of the Wagner employees, Nella is soon to discover that not all is as it seems.

The Other Black Girl will definitely get your heart racing. The story successfully incorporates the horror of Get Out (2017) with the demanding cutthroat industry featured in The Devil Wears Prada (2006)—a combination worthy of applause.
Parks and Recreation actress Rashida Jones is one of the executive producers of the series. This is an exciting prospect for fans of the renowned Black Mirror episode titled Nosedive—a thrilling masterpiece—which Jones co-wrote.
The hair-gripping trailer paired with the story’s social commentary on being overlooked and threatened in a workplace setting is likely to see this series go far.
The ten-episode series The Other Black Girl drops in full onto Hulu on 13 September.
