Despite receiving mixed reviews, the live-action Halo adaptation has been a hit with fans.

The Paramount+ original has achieved a record-breaking number of views in the first 24 hours, yet Paramount+ has not released the numbers, making this claim hard to verify. However, if this is true, Halo will have achieved more views than the Yellowstone prequel 1883 in its first 24 hours. It remains to be seen if the series can appear in the Nielsen streaming rankings later in the week, but this would also be quite the feat as no Paramount+ original has so far appeared in these rankings.

Paramount+’s Chief Programming Officer, Tanya Giles, had this to say about Halo’s success so far:

“Bringing Halo to life as a streaming series has been one of the most rewarding efforts for Paramount+ to date and we could not be more thrilled at the massive fan responses to the series’ debut. Along with our phenomenal partners at Showtime, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, we cannot wait for fans to experience more of this incredible universe.”

Halo’s first episode, ‘Contact’ arrived on the streaming service on Thursday 24th of March. The series is adapted from the hit 2001 series of video games, portraying the 26th-century conflict between humans and the alien threat known as the Covenant. New episodes come out every Thursday, with the series already renewed for a second season

It stars Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief (otherwise known as John-117), Natascha McElhone as Dr Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, Danny Sapani as Captain Jacob Keyes and Olive Grey as Miranda Keyes. Jen Taylor reprises her role as the voice actor for the AI, Cortana, from the games. The show has been in various forms of development since the 2000s, with Peter Jackson at one point attached to produce a feature film. That then changed to a series made exclusively for the Xbox, which also fell through. The show was eventually picked up by Paramount+.
