Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez is leading the way in the Golden Globe nominations, the Netflix release being in with a chance of taking home a whopping 10 awards.

Audiard is honoured in the directing and screenplay categories, the integral trio of Karla Sofìa Gascón, Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez all have acting nominations, the film has a Best Picture nod, and both the score and original songs are in the running too.

Meanwhile, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, I Saw The TV Glow and Longlegs are just three of the popular releases that have missed out altogether. In the acting category,Saoirse Ronan failed to gain a nomination for her performance in either Steve McQueen’s Blitz or Nora Fingscheidt’s The Outrun.

Following Emilia Pérez, The Brutalist (seven), Conclave (six), Anora (five) and The Substance (five) come next in the list of most nominations.

Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold’s script for The Brutalist and Mikey Madison’s performance as the titular Anora were shoo-in nominations, whereas the presence of Isabella Rossellini and Margaret Qualley in the Supporting Actress category were far from guaranteed nods—and have been celebrated a lot online.

Dune: Part Two, Wicked and Gladiator II were perhaps the three biggest box office releases this year, and all have garnered recognition in one form or another. The first two feature in their respective Best Picture categories, although Dune interestingly missed out on Cinematic and Box Office Achievement nominations.

Timothée Chalamet may not be nominated for his stellar performance as Paul Atreides but he is for playing Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, a film still to be released in the UK yet already the subject of much conversation.

Where Chalamet was unable to secure a pair of nominations, Sebastian Stan succeeded, with nominations for both The Apprentice, directed by Ali Abbasi, and Aaron Schimberg’s A Different Man.

Alongside Chalamet and Stan in the Best Male Drama Performance category are Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Daniel Craig (Queer), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave) and Colman Domingo, who earns Sing Sing a solitary nod—with his co-star Clarence Maclin unlucky to miss out in the supporting category.

Wicked has been on everybody’s lips for the last month or two, for better or for worse, so it is hardly surprising to see Jon M. Chu’s film feature twice in its own right. Star duo Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are also up for awards.

Angelina Jolie is receiving critical acclaim for her role as Maria, but her success in the Best Female Drama Performance category is far from certain; she’s up against Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here) and Nicole Kidman (Babygirl) to name just two of her competitors.

Among the almost 100 nominations, other standouts include RaMell Ross’ Nickel Boys for Best Drama Picture, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light for Best Non-English Language Picture and Gabriel LaBelle (Saturday Night) for Best Musical or Comedy Male Performance.
