It seems that each year people eagerly anticipate the fabled Glastonbury tweet, the one that really is the pinnacle of all festival announcements. This is a festival where tickets sell out in minutes, long before a single act is even revealed. 2016 was no exception with it taking just 30 minutes for all 135,000 tickets to vanish.

This year’s headliners are composed of an all-British set up, which will see the return of cult rockers Muse, Coldplay and Adele, with the singer finally being given the opportunity to headline the Pyramid Stage for the first time. There has been some disapproval of her positioning on the festival roster, however the sign of a female act so high up the bill can only be seen as a positive move in an age where visible attempts to increase the percentage of female-based acts at festivals are at an all-time high. This comes in the face of a study conducted by the Guardian’s data team, which detailed that 86 per cent of listed performers, on 12 of the UK festival line-ups were male, with 2,336 men performing compared to just 270 women. In doing so, Adele will be only the third woman this century to headline the festival – a figure that without doubt needs to increase.

In addition to the revered headliners, they are joined by an esteemed list of names that include Foals, The 1975, LCD Soundsystem and Beck – all of whom are more than capable of rising to the highest of stages and we may well see them do so in years to come.

Other names that stand out against the plethora of talent on show include the likes of Wolf Alice, who arrive at the festival on the back of a highly successful tour and are joined by the The Last Shadow Puppets, who’ve recently returned to the scene after an 8 year departure and are likely to incite much delirium amongst their willing fans.  Also joining them will be: PJ Harvey, M83, Jeff Lynne’s ELO,  Ellie Goulding, Sigur Rós and Chvrches.

Glastonbury 2016 will take place at Worthy Farm Somerset, from June 22-26.
