During the company’s first press conference at the event, there was a first look at some of the titles heading for the virtual reality system.
While no release date for the hardware is forthcoming, there was plenty to see in terms out what would be available when the release comes:
- Robinson: The Journey will put players in a world filled with dinosaurs to explore and survive in, with a little help from a mechanical guide,
- Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is a shooter title where players take a ride through a fairground roller-coaster, with a few twists and turns along the way,
- Classic arcade tank combat game Battlezone will be coming to PlayStation 4 though VR for the first time,
- Rigs: Mechanical Combat puts players in mechanical suits in a futuristic environment where they must battle against each other to score the most points as possible in multiplayer matchups
- Upcoming releases such as Tekken 7 and Gran Turismo Sport will also be VR compatible.
There was also a short demo of how the PlayStation VR system could be used outside of gaming. Using footage from the recent film release The Walk, users were able to have their own experience of attempting a high wire walk using VR technology.
Sony Worldwide Studio President Shuhei Yoshida also announced that more than 200 developers are currently working on titles for VR, which is scheduled for a 2016 release.
