With the eagerly anticipated Assassin’s Creed film adaptation due to begin filming next week, fans have been given a first look at lead character Callum Lynch along with some more details about the film.
The film sees Michael Fassbender (Shame) take on the role of Callum Lynch, a new character in the franchise. As well as the first image of Lynch, there’s also been confirmation of the film’s primary plotline:
“Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day”
While this sounds similar to the path of Desmond Miles, the film adaptation doesn’t appear to be featuring any of the characters from the games – such as Ezio Auditore, the Italian assassin operating in that era. Instead, these will be all new characters and a new story set within the existing world.
The film will see Fassbender reunite with his co star and director from the upcoming Macbeth, Marion Cotillard and Justin Kurzel, and they will be joined by Michael Kenneth Williams (12 Years A Slave) and Ariane Labed (The Lobster) in the film, which is due for release in December 2016.
