Gaming News: E3 2017 – Nintendo Spotlight

Among the announcements made during the special Nintendo Spotlight was some news on new content for some beloved characters.

Nintendo have released their Spotlight presentation for E3 2017. The presentation showcased what the company, and it’s partners, have coming up for Nintendo players:

  • Xenoblade – Holiday 2017 will see the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which featured an extended story trailer during the presentation.
  • Kirby – a new title for Nintendo Switch was announced with a gameplay trailer. The 2018 release will feature mulitplayer co-op and some iconic Kirby locations.
  • Pokemon – President of The Pokemon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara announced that Pokken Tournament will be launching on Switch and also that Gamefreak are currently developing a core RPG Pokemon for the Switch.
  • Metroid – a teaser trailer announced that Metroid Prime 4 is currently in development for release on Nintendo Switch.
  • Yoshi – a new side scrolling platformer – with flippable maps – will debut on Switch in 2018
  • Fire Emblem – fans got a more in depth look at the upcoming Fire Emblem Warriors ahead of its release later this year.
  • Mario + Rabbids – first announced at the Ubisoft presentation, fans got another look at the upcoming, Switch exclusive, with a closer look at the gameplay.
  • Rocket League – the Rocket League Nintendo Switch port will be released later this year and Nintendo players will enjoy a host of exclusive content and also have full cross play support.

During the presentation, fans got a look at the first two DLC packs for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Launching on June 30, The Master Trials will feature new missions, a new “Master Mode” difficulty and new armour. The Champions Ballad pack will feature four new characters – Daruk, Mipha, Revali and Urbosa – when it launches later this year. The four Champion characters will also be available as Amiibo figures for players to purchase.

Finally, there was a more in depth look at Super Mario Odyssey. The extended trailer opened with Mario being in control of a T-Rex as it travelled across a vista. The trailer also showed how Mario will be able to take control of enemies using his trademark hat, along with new locations, customisation screens and transformation capability. The trailer also confirmed the game’s release date as October 27, 2017.
