Keyword: Compatibility
If there was one word that summed up a large portion of this briefing, it would be compatibility. From new features to the introduction of Windows 10, there was plenty to look forward to:
- Backwards Compatibility on Xbox One. First announced at E3, it was confirmed today that all Games with Gold on Xbox 360 would be backwards compatible on launch in November.
- Windows 10 updates will be available for free on Xbox One later in November.
- Xbox One will soon have DVR and cross streaming features via Windows 10 in 2016 subscription free.
- Windows 10 enabled devices will also have DVR functions as well as cross buy/cross play features – which will allow gamers to save games/purchases on one device and pick them all up on another.
- To help with searching, entering codes and also sending messages, Xbox also unveiled the Chatpad, a small keyboard attachment for Xbox One controllers. The device will be released in November but is available to pre-order now.
There was also a short presentation of DirectX 12. With a little help from Square Enix, Microsoft showed off the new DirectX with a mix of environment and character shots, focusing on the heightened details and features it’ll bring to PC gamers.
