Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of Japanese developer FromSoftware and director of games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring, has revealed more information about the studio’s upcoming multiplayer action game The Duskbloods.

The Duskbloods was announced on April 2 during Nintendo’s recent Direct event as an exclusive for their new Switch 2 console. In a recent interview with the company, Miyazaki discussed the background of the game’s development, along with some new details about the gameplay.

The game, which is set for release in 2026, is described by Miyazaki as an “online multiplayer focused” PvPvE game that will see up to eight players face off against each other and in-game enemies. The game will feature “over a dozen” playable characters that players can customise as they fight through more and more online matches.

Miyazaki also made sure to stress that the game was designed to appeal to both existing fans of PvPvE games, and those that do not typically enjoy them, saying: “I personally am not much of a PvP person, and I wanted to make something that’s satisfying even for players like me.”

The Duskbloods is not FromSoftware’s only upcoming online multiplayer-focused title. The studio is set to release Elden Ring Nightreign on May 30 this year, a spin-off to their 2022 mega-hit that focuses on teams of set characters taking on new challenges in an ever-changing map. Despite these two games primarily delivering an online multiplayer experience, Miyazaki was quick to reassure fans that this will not be the studios primary focus for all future titles: “this is an online multiplayer title at its core, but this doesn’t mean that we as a company have decided to shift to a more multiplayer-focused direction with titles going forward.”

The Duskbloods is scheduled for release exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. The console will be available for purchase on June 5 2025, and a port of Elden Ring is also in development for the system, which is set to release later in the year.
