After the success of the second season, Netflix’s Heartstopper is finally going to be making a return to screens worldwide on 3 October 2024. First look photos of the upcoming season have arrived for fans to sink their teeth into, including the unveiling of a new character.
The British coming-of-age series follows the romantic story between school boys Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), as well as several interesting LGBTQIA+ sub-plots like the relationship between trans girl Elle Argent (Yasmin Finney) and Tao Xu (William Gao). The show has received much praise over the past two seasons, and quickly became one of the top UK Netflix shows.
The images include romantic shots of lead characters Nick and Charlie, as they navigate their developing relationship, as well as friends-to-lovers Elle and Tao.
New character Oliver Spring will take on the role of Charlie’s younger cousin (played by Eastenders actor Jensen Clayden) this coming season. Fans can glimpse the new character in the images released by Netflix. Author of the original comics and series creator Alice Oseman said the character will be making a “small but festive appearance” and is “excited for fans of the show to meet this beloved character from the comics!”
The series has integrated increasingly serious storylines, including homophobia, transphobia, mental health and eating disorders. Fans have speculated that these topics will be explored even further in the new series, with one commenting under the images released on Instagram, “I don’t know what’s more heartbreaking, Nick on the beach or Charlie looking at that food”.
To paraphrase Netflix, ”if anyone needs us, we’ll be looking at these Heartstopper season 3 images for the next 84 days”.
Netflix is set to release season three of Heartstopper this October. In the meantime, you can stream seasons one and two on the streaming service.
