Amazon Studios release the first images of the long-awaited sequel to Coming to America, starring Eddie Murphy
Coming 2 America is a sequel to the 1988 comedy starring Eddie Murphy as an African monarch, Akeem. In the first film, Akeem comes to America to find a wife before he can become king. In Coming 2 America, we return to Zamunda (Akeem’s country) to find that Akeem has a long lost son. Akeem sets off to America again to search for his son with his aide and best friend Semmi (Arsenio Hall).
The film is directed by Craig Brewer, who also worked with Murphy as the director of Netflix comedy Dolemite Is My Name. The sequel includes many of the original cast such as James Earl Jones, Arsenio Hall and Shari Headley. However, we also have a few new characters portrayed by Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones and more.
In the first set of images, we see the returning cast from the first film. One still displays Eddie Murphy as King Akeem on a gold and leopard print throne.
There is also a still of James Earl Jones as the comically named King Jaffer Joffer. Another shows Eddie Murphy with his partner in crime, Arsenio Hall. Both actors looked slightly confused in the iconic barbershop from the first film.
One images introduces new characters. We can see Wesley Snipes as General Izzi, looking very cool with a cane next to Teyana Taylor with an AK-47 in her other hand.
Fans of the original 1988 film Coming to America will be able to watch Coming 2 America on Amazon Prime from March 5.
