After much anticipation, the trailer for Oliver Stone’s upcoming biopic political thriller Snowden has been released. Stone has been praised for his works based on political issues (JFK, Nixon) and his latest venture is set to create a box-office buzz.
The film follows the story of the former National Security Agency (NSA) employee Edward Snowden. The private contractor worked with The Guardian to expose government surveillance systems in the United States back in 2013. The leaked information sparked a national debate over security systems and information privacy.
The film is based on the books ‘The Snowden Files‘ (by The Guardian reporter Luke Harding) and ‘Time of the Octopus‘ (by Anatoly Kucherena). Originally scheduled for released last year, the film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the titular character.
Gordon-Levitt is joined by a star-studded cast including Shailene Woodley in the role of Lindsay Mills, as Snowden’s girlfriend. The film also stars Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Nicolas Cage and Rhys Ifans.
Snowden is set to be released on September 16, 2016 in the U.S.
