Yep, it’s that time of the year again. The sun’s starting to creep out from behind the clouds, the cider is tasting a lot better than it did a couple of months ago and this summers festival line ups are being thrown at you left, right and centre. However you don’t just want the best acts playing, you want value for money, you want practicality. Well look no further than Southampton’s very own Common People, curated from the magical minds behind Bestival.
Taking place on Southampton Common over May Bank Holiday, 27th and 28th May, the weather is guaranteed to be amazing (I’m no weather man so this may not be exactly guaranteed) and the acts that are on offer this year are ure to bring the party to the South Coast for it’s third year.
Following on from last years stellar line up that included hometown hero Craig David and 80’s pop legends Duran Duran as headliners, this years bill boasts an eclectic mix for all ages. Two legends of the dance genre headline this years event; Pete Tong brings the Heritage Orchestra with him to perform a set of Ibiza Classics that are sure to have the whole of Southampton Common dancing like they’re on the sunny Balearic Island. Common People will also see Sean Paul bring his dancehall
anthems to the South Coast, with hits like ‘Breathe’ and ‘Temperature’ perfect for a Sunday night party.Alongside this years headliners, Common People have put together a vast array of different acts including singer-songwriter Tom Odell, the brightest young star in UK hip hop in Loyle Carner and noughties indie heroes British Sea Power. The festival also showcases the best in national and local rising talent with this years Main Stage including Southampton boy Sean McGowan, Southsea’s indie anthem specialists Kassassin Street and opening the Sunday will be local boys The Novatones, a year on from opening Isle of Wight Festival’s Big Top Stage.
Returning to Common People in 2017 will be the festivals Common Stage curated by Southampton’s world famous venue The Joiners. The stage will see an array of rising stars such as Brighton rockers Black Honey, local indie outfit Fever and acoustic folk cult hero Beans on Toast. Make sure you head over there to see the best in up and coming talent the south coast has to offer.
Common People will take place on May Bank Holiday, 27th to the 28th May, on Southampton Common. Tickets are priced at £52.50 for a weekend ticket or £27.50 for an adult day ticket, concession and student discounts are available. You can purchase your tickets through the official website here.
