The Man With No Name – ‘Dollars’ Trilogy
There is no denying, in the history of cinema Clint Eastwood’s western badass dubbed ‘The Man with no Name’ maybe the most iconic character in not just the history of cinema. But in the history of all media in general. So iconic in fact, that on so many occasions other characters like ‘Max Rockatansky ‘ (Mad Max) have been inspired by this character. References to the Man with no Name have been made in all types of media including Back To The Future II & III, Futurama and so on.
His title was earned because he was a nomad bounty hunter who travelled from place to place, known by many names including ‘Blondie’, ‘Joe’, ‘Manco’ and ‘The Hunter’ in the movies and books he appears in. It was realised that in fact, he doesn’t have a name at all. ‘No Name’ isn’t a mute, but chooses his words very carefully. Only speaking when it’s necessary, a silent and stoic being who’s history is truly unknown only that he is a bounty hunter, who does everything with his left hand apart from shooting. Even his age is a mystery, while it can be guessed he’s between 30 and 40. Another feature of his awesomeness is his costume, his signature side arm a revolver, jeans (adding to their popularity), his mexican poncho (he made those famous too) and finally his hat and fat cigar. Intelligent and highly skilled, No Name’s merciless accuracy with a gun will literally shoot you into a coffin, then shoot your personal belongings into said coffin. Appearing in 3 movies and 8 books, The Man with No Name is media’s perfectly defined anti hero…killing in the name of the law.
