Fantastically Great Women

A new pop musical, Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World, is set to premiere this Autumn at the MAST Mayflower Studios in Southampton.

Fantastically Great Women is a stage adaptation of suffragette descendent Kate Pankhurst’s award-winning picture book. It has been written by dramatist Chris Bush and songwriter Miranda Cooper.

The all-female creative team is made up of director Amy Hodge, designer Joanna Scotcher, and choreographer Dannielle Lecointe. They are joined by lighting designer Zoe Spurr and sound designer Carolyn Downing.

The story follows Jade on a school trip as she sneaks a look behind the scenes at the Gallery of Greatness in the local museum, which is not yet open to the public. There, she meets a number of inspirational women from throughout history, including Frida Kahlo, Rosa Parks, and Amelia Earhart.

In a statement, producer Kenny Wax said that is is “a thrill to have assembled our own team of fantastically great women to create this incredible show. No one is more excited than me for the curtain to rise on that first performance. And what an honour to be opening at the MAST Mayflower Studios who are making a commitment to premiering such daring new work.”

Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World will run at Mayflower studio from 6 November for two weeks, followed by runs at Norwich Playhouse and Liverpool Playhouse. Tickets will be available on the Mayflower website.
