Asti-Loren’s voice has a dreamlike quality that means her cover of Marina and the Diamonds ‘Blue’ is transformed into an intimate expression about the conflict between the need to move on and the comfort of the past. With her debut album set for release this spring, she brings a refreshingly intimate yet bold take on pop.
Set on a back drop of a subtle bass, Asti-Loren is teasing listeners with a nakedness that The xx are so famous for before the release of her debut single, ‘Follow Me’, on the 26th October. Embracing an air similar to that of Sky Ferreira, her voice is perfectly suited to her murmurs of “I’m bored of everything we do / But I just keep coming back to you”. With a sound so simple yet equally impacting, Asti-Loren makes such a raw expression of personal yearning a welcoming listen.
If ‘Blue’ is anything to judge her upcoming material by, then listeners will be in for a treat of dreamy vocals and a sound that overall has a rawness which still manages to create a wall impassioned emotions and maturity when her material arrives. With ‘Blue’ being premiered on The Indiependent, Asti-Loren is definitely one to watch in the upcoming months – and you can do so on her website.
