Liverpool-based psychadelic-rock band, Indigo Moon, recently released their self-titled debut EP. Their genre being self described as “Mersey psych rock with hair on its chest and a cherry on top”, Indigo Moon are passionately diverse, combining countless eclectic musical elements and rolling them into one.
The 3-track project is dominated by funky baselines, jangling guitar work and rolling synths. Gorgeous, silky vocals from Ash Colley fall rapidly into a full, dramatic sound and fall back out again just as quickly, creating an unusual undulating element within the opening track, ‘Inescapable’. Unexpected, dramatic drops and heavy vocals in this track lend themselves to the abnormality of the EP as a whole. The song ends on a jangling keyboard and guitar riff which blends directly into the intro of the following track, ‘Runaway Circles’.
The EP is both sonically and instrumentally dense; the typical drums, synths and guitar are accompanied by various additions. Talented vocals range from smooth highs to strong, dramatic lows. Their sound as a whole is dominated by chilled beats and off-kilter melodies, and while it may not get your foot tapping, it with invariably catch your attention. There are times nonetheless when the multitude of symphonic elements becomes slightly cacophonic, and the songs occasionally fall into repetitive ruts. These few faults however, are made up for by their unique style and full, well-produced sound.

‘Uncertain’ leans more towards the rock side of the spectrum. A banging electric guitar intro slowly strips down to simply percussion and bass before building back up once more. Despite the slightly misleadingly rock ’n roll intro however, the song is primarily dominated by their characteristically tinkling sound.
Indigo Moon’s eclectic roots set them far apart from most of the alternative psychadelic-indie outfits of today, and with the amount of talent they have under their belts they will no doubt be making waves in the alternative music industry in no time.
