Following its successful run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Looking For Me Friend: The Music of Victoria Wood is set to embark on a new UK tour.
Directed by Sarah-Louise Young, this show pays tribute to the remarkable career of Victoria Wood. This homage will feature twelve of Wood’s most popular songs including ‘It Would Never Have Worked’, ‘Reincarnation’ and the classic ‘Ballad of Barry & Freda (Let’s Do It)’, as well as some of her lesser-known works, aiming to please both long-time fans and audiences who are new to her work.
In a production that promises “a nostalgic hour of entertainment,” audiences are invited to revisit the artist’s most iconic sketches and routines in a joyous celebration of her life.
The show is written and performed by Paul L. Martin (Paulus) who is best known for his work as a Cabaret artist. He will be joined on stage by musical director Michael Roulston as they explore the musicality of Victoria Wood’s work.
This one-hour performance was originally curated for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2020 and has been met with rave reviews across various news outlets. One writer from the Musical Theatre Review described it as “a warm, witty, whistle-stop introduction to Wood’s songs” while another from Time Out commended Paulus for his “impeccable comic flair”.
The tour will begin in Southampton on 9 September 2022 with a performance at MAST Mayflower Studios and finish at Theatre@41 in York on 26 February 2023.
