Straight Outta Compton // N.W.A

I’m known for two things. The undying love I have for The X-Files, and my infatuation with music. Rock music, to be exact. Anything that falls under the category of rock. Classic rock, punk rock, alternative rock, heavy metal, hardcore punk, gothic rock, industrial rock…you name it, I exude my worship to Satan through it.

Saying that, I can go from listening to the likes of ‘Raining Blood’ by Slayer to ‘September’ by Earth, Wind & Fire. My love for music shows no bounds, as I’m a huge fan of other genres that aren’t rock – 70s funk and soul, 80s pop and synth-pop and 80s hip-hop/gangsta rap.

That’s where N.W.A’s seminal record ‘Straight Outta Compton’ comes in. I’m not into any hip-hop or rap that’s around now, I seem to just bask in the 80s glory of it all. That’s when music like hip-hop and pop had some sort of substance. N.W.A have been viewed as releasing the pioneering record of gangsta rap through this record, through its extreme (and I mean extreme) profanity and violent lyrics.

But even though these lyrics may not be suitable for the airwaves, N.W.A cover such extremely controversial topics. Topics such as police brutality and the way of life in cities like Compton, in such a way that is extremely memorizing and powerful to listen to.
