The soundtrack from the National Theatre of Scotland’s new musical Orphans has been released across all digital platforms.
It features 23 songs performed by the original cast, with music and lyrics written by Roddy Hart and Tommy Reilly.
The musical is an adaptation of Peter Mullan’s 1998 film of the same name. It is a darkly comic musical about family, grief and forgiveness, and follows the Flynn siblings after their mother’s death.
It stars Robert Florence, co-creator and performer in the BBC comedy sketch show Burnistoun, in the role of Thomas, and Amy Conachan, who played Courtney Campbell in Hollyoaks, in the role of Shelia. Reuben Joseph will play Michael, and Dylan Wood will play John.
Hart and Reilly said: “We are beyond thrilled to be making our stage musical debut with Orphans for the National Theatre of Scotland.
“It has been a dream project to work on this adaptation of Peter Mullan’s incredible film and write a collection of songs that we hope represents Scottish life in all its glory: the heart, the heartbreak, the darkness and the humour. And now we get to share it all with this specially recorded original soundtrack featuring our amazingly talented cast.”
Following preview performances at Greenock’s Beacon Arts Centre, the musical opened at the SEC Armadillo in Glasgow on 7 April, before visiting the Kings Theatre in Edinburgh from 12-16 April and Eden Court in Inverness from 26-30 April.
Music videos for ‘Safe with You’ and ‘Time is Time’ were released earlier this year.
