In a comment on the game’s main subreddit, r/DestinyTheGame, Bungie’s lead Community Manager, Cozmo, has reiterated that the two new dungeons revealed during August’s The Witch Queen presentation will only be included in the expansion’s Deluxe Edition.
He also explained that there will be a way for Standard Edition owners to access the dungeons. These dungeons will be separate from the Season passes, so players will have to purchase them separately.
The Standard Edition includes the base expansion, and the Deluxe Edition also includes access to the four Season passes, as well as various other in-game extras. The Standard Edition costs £34.99, and the Deluxe Edition costs £69.99. Players have known since August that only the Deluxe Edition would include the dungeons. However, they have had no information about the ‘separate access path’ until now.
Those who choose not to buy the Deluxe Edition of The Witch Queen, but who wish to access the content, will have to separately purchase the Standard Edition, the four Season passes as they are released over the course of the year, and the two dungeons.
Anger In The Destiny 2 Community
Cozmo’s comment on Reddit has received well over 2000 downvotes. The main source of complaint, on Reddit, would appear to be a trend towards putting content behind a paywall unnecessarily. The Prophecy dungeon, added during June 2020, was and still is free-to-play.
The splitting up of content and the associated confusion is another factor. Paul Tassi, a journalist who covers Destiny 2 content, noted:
This is the second major negative reaction to Destiny 2 news in two weeks. It follows the announcement made on 7 October that the Forsaken expansion will be put into the Destiny Content Vault when The Witch Queen launches on 22 February.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, and Stadia.
