Delhi Crime is an Indian crime drama anthology written and directed by Richie Mehta and produced by Golden Karavan, Ivanhoe Productions, Film Karavan, and Poor Man’s Productions. Season one (2019) of the series was based on the tragic 2012 Delhi gang rape case that took place in the neighbourhood of Munirka, in South Delhi, and it illustrates the events that followed the brutal crime. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vartika Chaturvedi is now on a spree to identify the culprits responsible for the assault and subsequent death of the female victim.

Season one of the series received acclaim from both fans and critics for its exceptional acting by the cast, excellent production value, outstanding script and screenplay, phenomenal cinematography, and unforgettable dialogues. It is jam-packed with thrill and adrenaline rush; the minute nuances and realistic portrayal leave a lasting impact on the audience an effect. The first two episodes of Delhi Crime were premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in the Indie Episodic category, and received positive responses from critics, praising the script, premise, and performances of the major cast members. Season one already created history in 2020 by becoming the first Indian show to win the International Emmy Awards in the category of “Outstanding Drama Series.”

As reported by Indian Express, Shefali Shah opened up in a recent interview with Galatta Plus to discuss the difference between Delhi Crime season one and season one and revealed that the upcoming season “is a fictionalised version of a true crime.” “The core of Delhi Crime is not going to change, in terms of it being a procedural. It is raw, real, and gritty. It’s not melodramatic, it’s not about sensationalising a case or a moment. The characters are so strong and embedded that whatever is happening is their reaction to the situations around them,” she said.

Shefali Shah received appreciation for her spectacular performances in her most recent movie releases, Jalsa and Darlings, on Netflix earlier this year. Delhi Crime season two starts streaming on Netflix on August 26.
