The trailer for Joe Carnahan’s Copshop starring Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo has been released.
Written by Carnahan and Kurt McLeod, the high-action motion picture sees the arrest of a con artist in an attempt to hide from a hitman.
The trailer’s synopsis reads “screaming through the Nevada desert in a bullet-ridden Crown Vic, wily con artist Teddy Murretto (Frank Grillo) hatches a desperate plan to hide out from lethal hitman Bob Viddick (Gerard Butler). He sucker-punches rookie officer Valerie Young (Alexis Louder) to get himself arrested and locked up in a small-town police station.
“But jail can’t protect Murretto for long. Viddick schemes his own way into detention, biding his time in a nearby cell until he can complete his mission.”
The Tomorrow War’s Alexis Louder is to co-star in the movie. Other supporting cast members include Rylan O’Nan, Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau, and Toby Huss.
This is Carnahan’s 16th project as director and 19th project as a writer. The award-winner is best known for Smokin’ Aces and Narc.
The plot is based on a story by McLeod and Mark Williams and is the first screenplay McLeod has produced.
The producers Open Road Films will release the title theatrically in the US, with STX International dealing with foreign distribution as well as direct release in the UK and Ireland.
Copshop was revealed to the public in September of 2020 after announcements that Butler would be starring in the picture. Filming began in October of 2020, immediately shutting down after three crew members tested positive for COVID-19. It resumed on 5 October and finished on 20 November.
Meanwhile, Gerard Butler’s involvement in the film coincides with his decision to sue the producers of 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen. The Hollywood actor’s lawyers claimed he is owed over $10 million in profits after ordering an independent audit.
The movie will hit UK theatres on 10 September.
