The Wombats

WHO’S IN THE BAND – The group have had three members since they began – Matthew Murphy is their main vocalist (he also plays on guitar and keyboard in The Wombats), Tord Øverland Knudsen is on bass guitar and vocals, whilst rounding up the line-up is Dan Haggis on drums and vocals.

GENRE – Fun, summery sounding indie pop, with breezy electro beats and witty lyricism.

WHERE ARE THE WOMBATS FROM – Liverpool; the location is name-checked in songs including ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’. Bands including Circa Waves and Echo & The Bunnymen are from Merseyside, and arguably the world’s biggest and famous band The Beatles were also from the musical city.

HOW LONG HAS THE BAND BEEN AROUND FOR – The group have been going for over 10 years now, with their first EP released in 2006.

YOU MAY RECOGNISE THEM FROM…- You could say The Wombats amongst British teenagers of the last decade have achieved cult status; despite only releasing three albums so far, the charm and uniqueness the group has has given them a mass following, not just in the UK but in the likes of Japan and China! A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation with anthems including ‘Kill the Director’ and ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’ has now sold over 335,000 copies ensuring the album went platinum. This Modern Glitch released four years later peaked in the Top 3 Album Chart, and the album I discovered the group from, 2015’s Gliterbug, even became a hit stateside. Tracks from their most recent release include ‘Emoticons’, ‘Greek Tragedy’, and ‘Give Me A Try’. Their songs have been featured on the soundtracks for cult British TV/films, including Chalet Girl and The Inbetweeners.

TOP TRACKS:
