Casting has been announced for Mercury Theatre’s summer production of Alice in Wonderland, reimagined by Olivier award-winning playwright Mike Kenny.

This version provides a modern twist on the classic children’s fantasy story. Alice is a student overwhelmed with the stress of exam season. However, after accidentally falling down a rabbit hole, she finds herself on an underground adventure in the magical world of Wonderland. There, she meets an array of peculiar creatures who, in many ways, parallel some familiar faces from back home. Amongst them are the ever so bossy White Rabbit, a grinning Cheshire Cat and a Mad Hatter.

Ruby Ablett plays the titular role of Alice. The rest of the cast will be playing dual roles. Tom Moores plays the White Rabbit/Mr Buck, Natasha Karp plays Queen of Hearts/Ms Head, Mike Slader plays Harry/Mad Hatter Hatter, and Miiya Alexandra plays Dora/Doormouse. Hannah Azuonye plays Carol-Louise/Caterpillar/Cheshire Cat and Jamie Noar who, alongside his role as Tweedledee/King of Hearts, is also the Musical Director.

The production also marks Loris Scarpa’s professional stage debut as Tweedledum/March Hare and Rosalind Ford’s return to the theatre to play Mum/Duchess.

Directed by Emma Earle, Alice in Wonderland will feature casting by Nicholas Hockaday, lighting design by Joshua Gadsby and sound design by Beth Duke and movement by Dan Canham.

The play will debut on Wednesday 3 August at the Mercury Theatre and will run until Sunday 14 August. Tickets are available for purchase on the Mercury Theatre website.
