The New Wolsey Theatre have announced the cast and creative team for ‘Burke & Hare’, which will take place from 6-21 May.
The cast includes Hayden Wood as William Burke, James Mack as William Hare, and Josie Dunn as Mrs Hare. In addition to their parts, the actors will use various disguises and accents to play the rest of the cast.
Created by Jenny Wren Productions, the show premiered at the Watermill Theatre in 2018. Wood will reprise his role from this production.
Burke & Hare at The New Wolsey Theatre is directed by Abigail Pickard Price, and Stephanie Kempson is associate director. Toots Butcher is set and costume designer, Matt Clutterham is lighting designer, James Cook is sound designer, and Elspeth Morrison is dialect coach.
The show is a black comedy set in the backstreets of 1830s Edinburgh. It is based on the true story of William Burke and William Hares, who murdered people to sell their corpses for dissection. It was originally scheduled to be performed at the theatre in 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic.
Tickets can be purchased from The New Wolsey Theatre’s website. BSL, Audio Described and Captioned performances are available, alongside livestreams from 19-21 May.
