The full cast and creative team have been announced for the Bristol Old Vic’s 2022 production of The Nutcracker.

Tom Morris’ new adaptation of the Christmas classic stars Mae Munuo as Claire; Denzel Baidoo as The Nutcracker; Tristan Sturrock as Mr Choke; Patrycja Kujawska as Mother, Queen Spoon, and the Baboon with Spoon; Guy Hughes as Eddie, Action Man, and Curly Purly; Kirris Rivieré as Martin and King Sausage; and Gwyneth Herbert as Queen Rat.

The creative team features Lee Lyford (director), Anna Watson (lighting designer), Laila Diallo (choreographer), Gwyneth Herbert (composer, lyricist, and music director) and Cat Boot (associate director), Tom Rogers (set and costume designer), Adrienne Quartly (sound design), and Jatinder Chera (casting director).

Director Lyford commented on the production: “What I think they can expect is a big, bonkers, fat, bulbous, Christmas show. It’s full of music, lots of dance, lots of movement, songs and a kind of story that has loads and loads of flavours so it’s kind of dark, it’s funny, its light, it’s silly.”

Composer, lyricist, and music director Herbert stated: “I think audiences can come and expect to cry and laugh and definitely sing along and maybe be a little bit changed. If you like a story, if you like a song, if you like dancing, or if you’ve always wished you could somehow [dance]. If you like Christmas, or even if you hate Christmas, in fact, particularly if you hate Christmas, come to this show, it’s for you.”

The Bristol Old Vic’s production of The Nutcracker will run from 24 November to 7 January 2023.
