Boardmasters have just announced 30 plus acts who will join headliners Two Door Cinema Club, Jamiroquai, and alt-J at the sand ‘n’ surf festival held by the Newquay coast. One of the best medium sized festivals in the country, Boardmasters invite acts from an eclectic range of genres every year to join their line-up. It will be running from the 9th to the 13th of August.
Noticeably in the new announcement are several grime stars – the London rooted genre of rap has witnessed a meteoric rise in the past few years, with both singles and albums making it into the top end of the charts. Stormzy is likely to be the most recognisable grime addition to Boardmasters, with freestyle ‘Shut Up’ performing well in the Christmas charts. In addition to Stormzy, Lethal Bizzle and Giggs will be taking to the stage.
Also announced is influential American rock band The Flaming Lips, who are famous for song titles with unusual, unique names, laced with psychedelic rhythms and space rock elements. Already announced for several huge UK summer festivals, The Vaccines will also be performing at Boardmasters, playing songs from the trio of excellent indie albums they have released.
Other acts in the latest announcement include JP Cooper, Frank Turner, Jax Jones and Kate Nash, amongst many other names revealed on the line-up poster. Boardmasters is much more than a music festival; coinciding with the festival is the World Surf League Competitions, featuring a variety of events for male and female surfers. Throughout the five-day duration of the festival will also be a beach bar, Cornish Market, and after-parties ensuring the liveliness and energy of Boardmasters continues beyond the performers.
