A teaser trailer has been dropped and a release date announced for the penultimate season of Big Mouth, with the award-winning adult comedy set to resume on the 20th October 2023.

The announcement comes just months after it was confirmed that the show had been renewed for an eighth and final series. The last chapter of Big Mouth will be a sendoff both for the original show and its spinoff series, Human Resources, which will end with its second season. It is expected that the stories of the latter will flow into the original series as both draw to a close.

Big Mouth is an adult animated show loosely based on the lives of co-creators Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg, and features their experiences of puberty during their youth. The series explores themes such as sexuality, consent, body image, and of course, puberty.

The show has won numerous awards over the years, including nine Primetime Emmy awards and six nominations. In particular Maya Rudolph, who voices Connie the Hormone Monstress among other characters, has won four Emmy Awards for her performance, and was nominated for another two.

The teaser features the arrival of voice actress Megan Thee Stallion as a new hormone monstress, alongside regulars Connie (Rudolph), Maurie (Nick Kroll), and Rick (Nick Kroll). The latter announces the release date of the series, to the approval of Thee Stallion.

The latest instalment will feature ten episodes and involves a considerable time jump; this time, the middle-schoolers will become high-schoolers, and will be forced to navigate the complications that come with new friends, new adversaries, and of course, new Hormone Monsters.

A new influx of guest stars have been confirmed for season seven. These will include Megan Thee Stallion, Lupita Nyong’o, Stephanie Beatriz, Zazie Beetz, Padma Lakshmi, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Billy Porter, Rosie Perez, Brian Tyree Henry, Zach Galifianakis, Randall Park, Chloe Fineman, Beck Bennett, Zach Woods, Mark Duplass, Thandiwe Newton, Paul Scheer, Brandon Kyle Goodman, Jon Daly, and Andy Daly. It is unknown as of yet which characters the new stars are expected to voice.

Director of adult animation at Netflix Billy Wee said of the series: “Big Mouth is a towering achievement in animated comedy that will make Netflix history for its longevity.”

He added: “We are thrilled that we still have two more hilarious seasons to share with fans before this brilliant coming-of-age story reaches its conclusion.”
