Ziggy Stardust (From The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars – 1972)

‘Ziggy Stardust’ is an electrifying song by one of the biggest legends in music history. It’s “about the ultimate rock superstar destroyed by the fanaticism he creates.” Bowie said. The whole concept of alter ego Alien Stardust is a strike of artistic genius and an example of Bowie’s excellence. Ziggy represents the definitive rock star: sexually promiscuous, excessive drug use but with a message of peace and love.

It is a trip – a glitzy mess of amazing riffs, hooks, melodrama, haunting vocals as well as style and the logical apex of glam. This is a song that, 44 years after its release, still sounds modern and timeless. Ziggy is a true anthem in the greatest sense of the world and possibly one of Bowie’s strongest tunes. He will be dearly missed but there’s no doubt he will continue to influence and inspire many generations to come.
