Beauty and the Beast (From Heroes – 1977)

Upon hearing of David Bowie’s passing, I put on Heroes, to appropriately remember the great man. The song that kicks off arguably Bowie’s greatest album, Beauty and The Beast is probably my favourite Bowie song ever.  The song begins with disjointed piano notes before building up, with Bowie crooning until the song jumps into full flow. The use of effects is fantastic, and the overall sound of the song, a kind of schizophrenic disco, is very much influenced by Brian Eno. ‘Beauty and The Beast’ is one of those songs that you just dance to in your own way, however strange, and it seems appropriate. It’s a wonderful song that hooks you into a wonderful album, which introduces many people to a wonderful body of work
