THE DOUBLE
dir. Richard Ayoade
While Submarine is possibly more well known by audiences, it falls short of Ayoade’s second film The Double. It’s just one of those films that aren’t really about anything in particular; there’s no huge plot running through the whole film, and you’re never really rooting for any of the characters. The story is still brilliant. Simon James Jesse Eisenberg) is an average joe who is practically invisible; invisible to his co-workers, his boss, and the girl he likes (Mia Wasikowska). He’s so invisible that when a new employee arrives called James Simon (also played by Jesse Eisenberg), no one notices that they are identical. James then starts taking over Simon’s life in every way imaginable, leaving Simon feeling like he truly doesn’t exist. It’s dark and heavy stuff, but it’s still a fantastic film.
