Larian Studios has released Patch 7 for Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC, which includes as its headline feature the addition of official mod support.
The update also introduces a host of new cinematics, improvements to Honour mode, and revamped split-screen combat. Furthermore, the patch fixes a host of script, animation, and gameplay glitches.
In total, Patch 7 includes over 1000 fixes to the main game and is approximately 11.6 GB in size. A full list of new features and improvements is available on the Baldur’s Gate website.
Patch 7 was originally reported as the last major update for the title. However, Larian’s Head of Publishing Michael Douse later confirmed on social media that this is not the case. Details on any further updates have not been announced.
While the update is now available for PC, Mac and console players will need to wait until later in the year to install the patch. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Larian told non-PC players that “although later than we originally expected, you should be diving into Patch 7 this October. We appreciate you for bearing with us, and will make sure to keep you updated with our progress!”
Larian also confirmed that, until Patch 7 is available for Mac and console players, multiplayer between PC and non-PC players will not be possible. Cross-saves will also not be possible between updated PC versions and versions of the game not running Patch 7.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the third main instalment in the Baldur’s Gate franchise, which takes place within the Forgotten Realms Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting. Baldur’s Gate 3 made history as the first title to win Game of the Year at all five of the major gaming awards ceremonies; the Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards, the Game Developers Choice Awards, the D.I.C.E. Awards, and the British Academy Games Awards.
Released in August 2023, sales had surpassed 10 million by February this year. Business Insider reports that the title has made in excess of $650 million since its launch.
In March 2024, Baldur’s Gate 3 director and Larian co-founder Swen Vincke confirmed that the studio would not be producing any downloadable content nor a sequel to the game.
